The Weekend That Was

I could do without too many weekends like that one – after two long days and late nights I’ve spent most of Monday rolling back everything that was upgrade back to where we were on Friday night. I’ll not bore anyone with the gory details suffice to say neither Sun nor Oracle will not be on my Christmas card list this year. Although having said that they probably wouldn’t have been if the upgrade had gone to plan anyway.

On top of that we had the Sky engineer out to replace the HD box, the power supply went phut last week and it only took 6 days to send someone out, and I dont think its stopped raining since Thursday. On the upside Sunday afternoon was brightened by a visit from Erin and her (sleep deprived) Mum & Dad, although there were still too many work hassles for Uncle Steve to make the most of the visit.

Dont think we did too badly on the football pools prediction front though

Draws: 6/10 – Coventry, Oldham, Hull, Southamtpon, Motherwell, Arbroath

Homes: 4/5 – Chelsea, Rangers, Manchester Utd, Chesterfield

Aways: 2/5 – Bournemouth, Leeds

Admittedly Arbroath was postponed due to the weather and was classed a no score draw by the pools panel – but 5 score draws and 1 no score draw isn’t too bad, we’ll see if we can improve on that next weekend.

Football Pools

The old Football Pools companies (Littlewoods, Vernons, Zetters etc) have all joined together and rebranded themselves as the New Football Pools – and they’ve even got themselves a website.

You can enter online and they will check how you did and email you your score – there’s also Spot The Ball and several other new games you can play (Super 6 – pick the results of just 6 games or Premier 10 – pick the results of all the Premiership games).

Here’s my suggestions for this weekend’s games

Draws: Coventry, Airdrie Utd, Oldham, Arbroath, Hull, Birmingham, Barnsley, Southampton, Stockport, Motherwell

Homes: Chelsea, Rangers, Manchester Utd, Millwall, Chesterfield

Aways: Arsenal, Leeds, Bournemouth, Charlton, QPR

If I’m organised enough i’ll try do this each week – and keep track of how badly I’m doing.

Of courseĀ  if I actually manage to pick 8 score draws then there may not be any updates at all for a week or two…

Center Parcs & Baby Erin

Lots of stuff has happened in the last couple of weeks, its hard to know where to start!

We manged to squeeze in a week at Center Parcs in Penrith, Megan had a ball as usual and we were there over Bonfire Night as well – the fireworks (and the hog roast) they put on were pretty impressive. Nana and Grandad came along too although I think they were worn out by the end of the week.

There was no time for recuperation though as last weekend saw the arrival (a couple of weeks early) of little Erin McTaggart – everyone’s fit and well and was back home by Monday, although I think Darren and Elaine are still getting used to the idea of being Mum & Dad. Lots of photos have already been loaded onto Facebook by Darren & Aunty Angela for those that are interested.

I’ve been on the road again since we came back, fortunately just round Scotland but I did have to negotiate the flooding and travel chaos last night – 4 hours to get back from Stirling (which is around 60 miles away). Still at least we didn’t get it quite as bad as Cumbria seem to have done.

I’m working this weekend (from home thankfully) so you may find there’s one or two more entries appear in the near future, but WordPress 2.8.6 is out so I’ve loaded that up already and all seems to be well – loving the new two click/60 second upgrade process.
