There’s not been many updates recently, as I seem to have spent every spare minute driving.
In the last week I’ve been to see my dad, to Alderley Edge for a meeting, Elgin for an install and Aberdeen for a system check – I’m going to see my dad again this weekend and then back to Aberdeen at the beginning of next week for an upgrade.
That’s 1500 miles in the last week and another 1000 to come in the next few days – it’s a good job the seats in the Volvo are so comfy…
The Reds cruised through to the second qualifying round of the Champions League with a comfortable win at the Racecourse Ground in Wrexham.
One from Cisse and brace from Gerrard secured a trip to Lithiuania next week to meet FBK Kaunas – the second leg at Anfield on 2nd August.

Quality Landscapes kept true to their word and finished on Tuesday afternoon. There are pictures, but I don’t know how to do that jazzy part, so I will leave that to Steve when he gets back.
Megan is very impressed by her new play area, and all her toys are positioned nicely on it. Unfortunatly she hasn’t been able to use it as its not stopped raining!!! So much for Steve’s new weather update…….
What with the garden furniture, Megan’s climbing frame, play house and other assorted toys cutting the grass in the back garden was becoming a bit of an obstacle course. To make life a bit easier and the garden a bit tidier, we’ve employed Quality Landscapes to turn around a quarter of the garden into a play area for the tiny one and her plethora of toys.
They’ve lifted the turf and fenced around the area today, as well as tidying up the border at the bottom of the garden – the plan now is to fill it up with play bark and move the climbing frame and the rest of the toys back into it. Cutting the grass should in future just be a case of avoiding the garden furniture – at least until we get a bit of decking or a patio area for that too!
They reckon they’ll have it all finished in a day or so, so we’ll load up some pictures when its all done.
We went to see Senor Spielbergo’s latest epic last night, and mighty good I thought it was too.
It’s obviously had the hollywood treatment, but I think H.G.Wells would have recognised his story without too much trouble. All the key plot points were there (the attack on the Thunder Child, the nutter who wants to live underground – excellent cameo by Tim Robbins and the red weed) although the action has shifted to the other side of the Atlantic and the central character now has his two kids in tow. We also never found out where the invaders had come from, presumably Mars is stretching credibilty too much these days?
The special effects are stunning (I’m sure Wells would have approved of the tripods!) and the tension builds throughout the film, although I suspect that if you don’t know the story you may be a bit disappointed by the ending. Having said that, I’d have been disappointed if they’d tried to do the hollywood thing to it – but I guess Spielberg knows better than to mess with things like that.
Definitely merits a four out of five in my book, far more watchable than George Lucas’ recent efforts – and I quite liked them!
The new football season’s kicked off already, with a friendly against Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground. Two a piece from Fernando Morientes and Milan Baros secured a winning start, with just about everyone in the squad getting a game.
The Red’s have also signed Mohamed Sissoko from Valencia subject to a medical, and are waiting to hear whether they’ll be getting Luis Figo from Real Madrid. Rafa’s still looking for a couple more players for the squad who have the first leg of the first qualifying round of the Champions League against TNS on Wednesday.
All that and the Ashes Test series still hasn’t even started…
Some reaction to the attacks…
I hope we don’t fall into the trap of looking for easy answers – securing our borders and passing legislation that restricts all our human rights will solve nothing.
If we have learned anything from 30 years of terrorist activity in this country it must be that there is no security solution to this problem.
Only by engaging all sides and addressing the injustices that foster this extremism will a solution be found.
My dad’s old car passed it’s MOT yesterday without too much trouble, so I’ve advertised it for sale on AdTrader.
We’ll see how it goes there and if there’s no takers we’ll try Auto Trader – but that costs more and we’re not asking that much for the car…
